I setup the VMware version for internal use only at our company, and it's really worked out well. I used the LDAP connector to hook it into our directory, which took a bit of work, but new folks can log right in. It allows restricting pages to certain users and groups which is great; others can't even see that the restricted pages exist.

FYI, there were at least dekiwiki suggestions on DH each with 4 votes and DH eventually removed both as being redundant.... I have posted a tech support query about this....

You may be interested in what the team over at Mindtouch are doing to make it easier to install outside of the VM.

Antony: I am still pleased with Deki-Wiki. You are correct, in that they (wisely, in my opinion), primarily suggest that you run the vmware of DekiWiki. (The open source version has a number of dependencies, which make it very difficult to install)

There are a number of deki-wiki hosting services, such as http://wik.is

Hi there. Thanks for an excellent review.
I gotta admit, though, I am still a little lost as to how exactly DekiWiki is deployed.
I searched through many wiki implementations, and on paper, and in the examples, this looks like an excellent solution. I have MediaWiki setup on my website, but found that a bit overwhelming for some users to contribute to.

When I found DekiWiki, I thought I would try installing it to try it out. I was expecting some sort of upload to the Linux server (I have an account on a hosted server where I have installed Joomla and MediaWiki). Instead of that the documentation talks about using VMWare, and installing it on my local machine. Obvisously installing it on my laptop wont really help other users.

Can you point me in the right direction for getting it up and running for others to use? Or is there a hosted solution of DekiWiki?

You posted this a while back... would you still recommend DekiWiki as a good way to go. (Sorry... I know that is a bit of an open-ended question... but are you still happy with it?)

Many thanks,
Antony
